Research Assistant/Associate (Fixed Term) - CLOSING DATE 30 August 2020
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 year
The University of Cambridge invite applications for a 1-year, fixed-term, full-time postdoctoral research associate. The starting date is negotiable but will be 1 October 2020 or as soon thereafter as possible by mutual agreement.
The post-holder will contribute to the Alan Turing Institute-funded research programme PALAEOANALYTICS, which is developing data science and machine learning cross-disciplinary analytical methods to apply to human evolutionary studies. We welcome candidates with a strong background in palaeontology or prehistoric archaeology, or biological anthropology, and with experience and skills in quantitative methods. The applicant should have a PhD submitted or close to submission at the time of application. Applicants with appropriate non-doctoral research experience will be considered for research assistant appointment.
The postdoctoral research associate will work with the PI and collaborators in Cambridge, and with research engineers at the Alan Turing Institute. The aim of the project is to develop data science and machine learning methods to extract and analyse human palaeontological and archaeological data related to human evolution, and to work towards ways of integrating these data more fully with bioinformatics and genomics. The role of the post-holder will be to develop the trial data sets for the development of the data science methodologies, and work with the PI and the research engineer in developing the protocols and algorithms. The post-holder will also be expected to play a major role in organising the networking and workshops that will support the project.
The salary for the Research Associate starts at £32,816 - £40,322 per annum, if you have not yet received your PhD you will be appointed as a Research Assistant and the salary will be starting at £26,715 - £30,942 per annum until the PhD is awarded.
