Interests

He has co-authored more than 150 scientific publications and covered various topics in complex systems, statistical mechanics and dynamical systems in his research activity. He has investigated efficiency, centrality, motifs, and community structures in real-world networks and developed analytic and computer models to study network growth, disease propagation and collective behaviours, such as synchronization or cascading failures, in complex networks. Application areas range from the contributions of physics to the current debate in urban planning and design towards the making of more sustainable urban communities, to the application of methods from statistical physics to biological sequences (genomes and proteomes), and to the containment of mobile phone viruses that spread via Bluetooth contacts. He is Co-I of an EPSRC Project ‘LoBaNet’, Nash equilibria for load balancing in networked power systems (until March 2019). The project aims to explore the dynamic, multiplayer, economic and operational “games” arising when energy storage and demand-side management technologies are applied to power system balancing.
